About

Welcome!

Do Re Mi Piano Academy specializes in instruction for kids and adults, classical and popular music, hymn playing, and sight-reading, from beginner to advanced. Owner, Miss Emma, also enjoys working with adult students who had emotionally difficult experiences with an instructor in the past, and who are looking to reconnect with music in a gentle, supportive environment.

Love of Piano

Miss Emma began her formal music education at the age of seven when her parents signed her up for piano lessons, and she has never looked back! Piano lessons paved the way to accompany church worship services and choirs throughout high school and college. While studying at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, WI, Emma discovered that her love of piano playing transferred to a love of piano teaching, and in 2011, she became the first person to graduate from WLC with a minor in Piano Pedagogy to accompany her Bachelor of Science in Educational Studies.

Learning to Teach

After gaining two years of teaching and accompanying experience in Denver, Colorado, Miss Emma moved to Nashville to obtain her Master’s Degree in Piano Pedagogy at Belmont University. To complete her degree, Emma chose “the development of music performance anxiety,” as her thesis topic, a topic near and dear to her heart and one she hopes can help her students.

Experience

From February 2014 to December of 2015, Miss Emma gained valuable teaching experience working with Caleb Hogan and the staff of Studio C Piano Academy, another high quality Nashville piano studio. In January of 2016, Miss Emma branched out on her own, using what she learned from colleagues at Studio C to open Do Re Mi Piano Academy.

Exciting Changes

In January of 2018, Ms. Emma changed her name from Veers to Franklin when she married the love of her life, Andrew. In May 2020, in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the studio moved from Whispering Hills Dr. to a bigger and more permanent location: 7356 Olmsted Dr. Nashville, TN 37221. In August of 2021, Emma and Andrew welcomed Melody Franklin, a sweet miniature Goldendoodle puppy into their family. Keep an eye out for an eager puppy face at the window; Melody does her best to make sure everyone feels welcome!

Happy Miss Emma, outside by a wooden fence

Miss Emma has been my daughter's piano teacher for the past 4 years and she has been great! My younger daughter also just started lessons and is really enjoying it. Ms. Emma is very patient and encouraging and my girls enjoy their lessons, so we are very pleased!  (S.Q.)
